2019 Collaborative Grant Recipients
Strolling and Singing: Submitted by music educators Tamra Gingold, Urbana High School and Beth McDonald Carrie Busey Elementary. The Urbana and Champaign 5th grade string programs from 11 schools will be pairing up to perform a joint concert with professional and student interns from the Urbana Pops Orchestra, students from the This n That group, and dancers from the Urbana Fine Arts Center. Each group will perform a few pieces of their own and then all participants will collaborate in playing music as one large ensemble to accompany the dancers in early May 2020 at Urbana Middle School. Young string players will work with professionals, and also get to see high school students who started in 5th grade perform at a higher level of playing. “My hope is that students will be inspired to continue learning more challenging music and create their own. Some may join an ensemble or seek out private lessons. We want students to be inspired to continue their music journey, says Gingold.”
