The Champaign-Urbana Schools Foundation is excited to introduce the Wisdom Network, a new Speaker Bureau designed to connect community members with valuable knowledge and experience to the teachers and students who can benefit from it most.
Our teachers are doing incredible work every day to prepare students for life beyond the classroom. One of the most powerful ways to deepen learning is to connect academic concepts with real-world experiences. That’s where you come in.
Do you have professional expertise? A unique career path? A skill, passion, or life experience that could broaden students’ understanding of what is possible? Whether you are an entrepreneur, artist, engineer, healthcare professional, tradesperson, nonprofit leader, or lifelong learner your perspective can make learning more relevant, engaging, and inspiring.
The Wisdom Network is a simple way to make a meaningful impact.
By completing this short Google Form, you can be included in a directory shared with teachers across our local schools. When a teacher sees a connection between your expertise and what their students are learning, they may reach out to invite you to visit their classroom (either in person or virtually) to share your knowledge, answer questions, and help students see new possibilities for their future.
Your visit might include:
• Sharing what a typical day in your profession looks like
• Explaining how skills learned in school are used in real life
• Demonstrating a technique, tool, or process
• Talking about challenges you’ve overcome
• Answering students’ questions about education, career paths, and life lessons
• Encouraging curiosity, persistence, and confidence
You do not need to be a professional speaker. You simply need to be willing to share what you know in an authentic and encouraging way.
Many adults can point to a moment when someone took the time to share insight, encouragement, or perspective that expanded their sense of what was possible. The Wisdom Network helps create more of those moments for today’s students. Participation is flexible. There is no ongoing time commitment – simply complete the form and wait to be contacted if an opportunity aligns with your background and availability.
