According to AdoptAClassroom.org in a study that has been conducted for a decade now, last year teachers spent an average of $895 out of their own pockets to provide supplies and resources for their students. That’s nearly $1,000 per teacher, money that comes straight from their personal budgets, because they care deeply about creating the best possible learning environment.
CU Schools Foundation has been working since 1988 to ensure that statistic does not apply to our teachers in Champaign and Urbana – AND we realize that money alone does not change the trajectory of a school and its impact on the students. That’s why we launched the Adopt-A-School: a way for civic and religious organizations, local businesses, and even individuals to step in and make a real, lasting difference.
When you or your organization adopts a school (or team, or department or specialty teacher), you’re not writing a check. You’re building a consistent, long-term partnership with educators, students, and families. You’re supporting teachers by providing encouragement, support, and connection that strengthens the entire school community.
The ripple effect is powerful…Teachers feel valued and supported subsequently a positive school culture emerges, and students feel safe and excited to come to school. Then families experience the strength of a community that believes in their kids, and our entire community is elevated when we invest in education together.
This isn’t just about school supplies, it’s about raising the bar for everyone.
If you’re part of a civic group, a faith community, a local business, or simply someone who cares about the future of Champaign-Urbana, we invite you to learn more about how you can get involved. Together, we can truly make an impact on the future of our community. Email etarr@cuschoolsfoundation.org to set up a meeting and find out more.
