CU Schools Foundation Adult Team Spelling Bee

2nd Annual CUSF Adult Team Spelling Bee Fundraiser

6:00-10:00 P.M.

Urbana Civic Center

The CU Schools Foundation (CUSF) will hold its 2nd Annual Adult Team Spelling Bee fundraiser on Saturday, November 9 from 6:00 – 10:00 pm at the Urbana Civic Center. The evening promises to be full of excitement and surprises, as teams comprised of 3 adults battle it out to take home the coveted “Best of the Hive” trophy.

While the Bee sort-of follows the Scripps-Howard Spelling Bee rules, the main purpose of the event is an evening of community fun in celebration of education. There will be prizes awarded in various categories (First to Fail/Best Fail, Best Costume, Best Spirit) and plenty of opportunity for spectator participation – including the option to “save” your favorite team with a “pass” or two. (Of course, at a small price!) We may even give each team a warm-up word to take the “sting” out of it. Best of all, unlike grade school and shaky knees, no single person will go it will always have your team swarming around.

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than last year. Teams comprised of 3 adults will still battle it out to take home the coveted “Best of the Hive” trophy, however this year the competition will be even stickier with 40 teams competing. But this year, the top three teams get to choose a school to receive PE Equipment.
• 1st place-$2,500 PE equipment provided by Kraft
• 2nd place-$1,000 gift certificate provided by Litania Sports Group
• 3rd place-$300 gift certificate provided by Polar

SO, you are still trying to picture this, right?  Just what is an adult version of a spelling bee? take a look and start to bee-lieve!

Are you ready to spell? to form your part of the swarm? Put together a team of at least 3 people and maybe an alternate for this coming fall…Teams can represent workplaces, such as banks, real estate brokers, retail stores, doctors’ and dentists’ offices, and non-profit community groups; town employees such as Police, Fire, Park and Rec; governing boards such as Council Members, Education; neighborhoods, PTA’s, youth coaches, teachers, administrators, or just a group of adult friends! The team entry (contribution) fee is $150 for a team of 3. All proceeds go to support the work of the CU Schools Foundation. The Winning Team will not only have the traveling trophy to proudly display but there will be other prizes AND they will have the opportunity to choose a major prize to benefit a local school.
