Meet our board:
Andrea Ruedi understands the positive impact dedicated teachers can have on their students.
Andrea attended elementary and high school in rural Waverly, IL (pop. 1,400), and says her physical education teacher and coach, Charlene Hobbie, influenced her in ways she did not realize until much later in life. “Mrs. Hobbie was ahead of her time. When Title IX first came about, she jumped at the chance to implement a girls sports program in our tiny school. We competed against much larger “city” schools, since not many schools had girls sports at the time. Because of her, we (girls) were able to play team sports and learn valuable life lessons.” Andrea says Mrs. Hobbie instilled confidence and determination in young girls to enable them to achieve their full potential, pushing her students to explore their capabilities and encouraging them to work hard to achieve their goals.
Andrea brings her goal-focused work ethic and appreciation for inspiring teachers to her new role as a Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation Board Member. “Having previously served on the Cunningham Children’s Home Foundation Board for several years, I developed a keen interest in the impact that caring and education have on the future success of our children. In addition, as a Champaign County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), I see first-hand the basic needs that so many of our school children have.”
“I look forward to my involvement with the CU Schools Foundation, an outstanding organization that supports our area teachers and is affecting the lives of hundreds of school children each year.”
